Burt Kwouk
is perhaps one of Britain’s busiest character actors.
Internally famous as Inspector Clouseau’s manservant, Cato, Burt
has starred in over sixty films, and has guest starred in tv series as
diverse as Hancock’s Half Hour, Danger Man, The Avengers, The
Saint, The Champions, Callan, The Tomorrow People, Return Of The Saint,
Robin’s
Nest, Dr Who, Hart To Hart, Lovejoy, The House Of Elliot, Harry Hill and The
Bill.
His many films include Inn
Of The Sixth Happiness (1958),
Expresso Bongo (1960), A Shot In The Dark (1964) and, in the same year,
he played Mr
Ling in the third of the James Bond films, Goldfinger. Several films
later, including Our Man In Marrakesh, The Brides Of Fu Manchu, The
Vengence Of Fu Manchu and Casino Royale, Burt made his second ‘official’ Bond
film appearance in You Only Live Twice (1967) as SPECTRE Number 3.
Five more Pink Panther films followed, as did the popular tv series
Tenko. In recent years, Burt has starred in Air America (with Mel Gibson),
Bullet To Beijing (with Michael Caine), Arabian Nights,
Peggy Su!, Kiss
Of The Dragon, and has supplied the voice of Banzai. He is now a regular
in long-running BBC series Last Of The Summer Wine.
Whilst perhaps receiving most fan mail for Cato, Burt receives much
for his two Bond appearances and looks back with pride and happy memories
on his association with 007.
