Biography

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, David began his acting career with the Sock & Bushkin Players at Brown University before moving to New York to study with Sanford Meisner and Martha Graham at the Neighbourhood Playhouse. He also studied with Lee Strassberg at the Actor’s Studio.

His theatre roles have ranged from Turgenev’s A Month In The Country directed by Michael Redgrave, to recent co-starring roles with Paula Prentiss in 2002’s comedy The Allergist’s Wife; Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, with Juliet Mills; Alone Together with Anita Gillette; and the New York premiere of First Love with Lois Nettleton.

David co-starred with Vincent Price in cult horror film The Fly before moving on to an enviable career on both the small and large screens.

His many tv shows include regular characters in Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, Dynasty, The Colbys and NBC Soap Another World. Additionally, he has guest starred in shows including The Saint, Murder She Wrote, Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The A-Team and Hotel.

However, perhaps his greatest popular has been achieved through playing Felix Leiter in two James Bond films: Live And Let Die (1973) and License To Kill (1989). David is the only actor to play Leiter twice, and remains the fan’s favourite.

His other films include North Sea Hijack and The Naked Face, with Roger Moore; and most recently Mach 2 and The Omega Code 2.
